Wottan is a brand that started its journey in 2009 to offer affordable motorcycles and scooters with good performance .
The latest addition to its catalogue is the Storm-X, a 125cc scooter that is also offered in 150cc and comes in two 125 versions: the standard one and the Storm-X+.
The Wottan Storm-X stands out for its avant-garde and sharp lines in a compact format with a bare handlebar, a central tunnel and LED lighting, seasoned with interesting flashes of technology.
The Storm-X+ is powered by a liquid-cooled, four-stroke, single-cylinder engine that delivers 11hp at 8,500 rpm and a maximum torque of 11.3Nm at 6,500 rpm . In the case of the standard version, it is air-cooled, delivers 9hp at 7,000 rpm, has a combined brake system and a more basic screen.
As for suspensions , we find a 31 mm hydraulic telescopic fork at the front and a double hydraulic shock absorber adjustable in three positions at the rear. As for brakes, it has a 240 mm disc at the front and a 220 mm disc. While the standard version offers combined braking, the plus version includes ABS.
In terms of technology, it features a colour TFT display with five adjustable brightness levels. The Storm-X+ also features a start-stop system, USB port and a key for remote opening of the scooter. This version also includes disconnectable traction control and a silent start system.
The dimensions of the Wottan Storm-X give it the appearance of a compact scooter, while at the same time it feels very light to handle, as it only weighs 142 kg. In addition, the height of its seat is 750 mm, which makes it an accessible scooter for anyone. As for its tank, it offers a capacity of 10.5 liters. Its front wheel is 14'' while the rear is 13'', a combination that favors stability and agility.
Under way
The unit we were able to test is the Storm-X+ version, so to get behind the wheel we need to turn on the scooter remotely via a button that allows us to turn the scooter's control to the on position in order to start it. In other words, it does not function as a smart or proximity key.
We found a good storage capacity under the seat, which although it cannot hold a full-face helmet due to its design, it does fit any jet helmet and other objects, since it is long and quite useful . In addition, it also has a glove compartment whose depth is surprising, thus adding extra space.
Its seat is comfortable and padded , and due to its low height I can reach the ground well with my 1'65m. It is a good option if you want to carry a passenger since in addition to the comfort that its seat offers for both occupants, it also offers handholds so that the passenger in the back can be more secure.
On its TFT screen we find two different modes: one called Full Mode that offers all the information arranged in a fairly clear way and a Streamline mode that reduces the information displayed on the screen and changes the effect of the analog movement of the speedometer needle to a trail. The Full Mode is the one that is displayed by default and the truth is that this type of display convinced me more than the simplified mode. The Storm-X+ also has connectivity so that you can pair the scooter with your smartphone, something that you can easily do from its menu. In addition, you can use its step-by-step navigation system that is practical and easy to activate using a QR code.
The silent start-up is very pleasant, as you certainly don't notice any sound when starting the scooter. The response of its engine is very smooth and progressive - perhaps too much so - which gives it a very suitable behaviour for moving around in an urban environment even if you don't have any experience. In addition, it has a good turning radius to move around narrow streets without any problem. Its 11 HP are more than enough for this task, although it wouldn't have been amiss to reach the 15 HP limit of the displacement to give it more capabilities in case of interurban stretch. Its braking is also correct and progressive and we don't find the ABS intrusive. The shock absorbers also do their job by absorbing without problems the irregularities that we can find in urban terrain without being too soft and bouncy.
With the start-stop system activated, the throttle response is not immediate , so if you are one of those who prefer to leave traffic lights or roundabouts more decisively, you always have the option of deactivating it by pressing a button on the right side of the handlebar, where you can reactivate it when you opt for more efficient driving.
Another positive point is that it offers both a side stand for quicker and more comfortable stops and a central stand , with which you can park it in a safer and more stable way. And speaking of safety, it has a visual “alarm” if someone moves it, and if it is parked and detects movement, the emergency lights will turn on, although without making any sound, something that makes it impractical if you do not have your scooter in sight but can be a deterrent.
All in all, the Wottan Storm-X is a practical and attractive looking scooter that offers good value for money given its equipment and performance, a difference that in our opinion is worth paying. The available colours are Crystal Blue, Cream White and Dark Grey.
As for its competition ,it really stands as an alternative to the well-knownHonda PCX125 eitherYamana NMax with a noticeably lower price and a truly modern and elaborate design.
